** CRAIGSLIST ADVISORY --- AVOID SCAMS BY DEALING LOCALLY ** Avoid: wiring money, cross-border deals, work-at-home ** Beware: cashier checks, money orders, escrow, shipping ** More Info: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams.html Yipes! The grey variety are usually not pets. Sure it's not a poisoned rat that wacked from ingested something?? Yep, people do have rats as pets and I hear they make great pets (no thanks) but usually they are any color but grey. Best of luck on that one.

Yeah, people definately have pet rats. I have six. There are even rat breeders. http://www.ratterfly.com Do you have a box or a cage or anything that could be used to catch it? If so, catch it (put some food in it, then when you see if go in, close it up) and then give me a call at (917) 881-4301 or e-mail me at jebuell@hotmail.com I'm in El Cajon so I may not be able to get there right away, but just throw some table scraps or dog food in there and the rat will be content to munch away. Tame rats are usually pretty calm. They ar also rather intelligent and rarely will a tame rat bite. The rat you describe sounds like a rex rat, which is definately a rat someone bred to specifically have fur like that. Rats are pretty cool pets. If you'd be interested in keeping him let me know and I can help you find food and a cage for him and stuff. Otherwise, yeah, I'll happily take him off your hands for you. Jaye
I've had a couple of pet rats in the past. It's possible this is someone's pet (and if so, bless you for trying to find the owner), but it could be a wild rat that is sick, too. We had one in our driveway that just stood there staring at me instead of running off. I don't know if it was old, or sick, or what. In any case, be careful if you handle it. You might try contacting the American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association. Maybe they could identify it, and might have someone who would be willing to adopt it. http://www.afrma.org/showdate.htm Good luck! Linda
YES, people have pet rats! They are cool pets, very smart, always "up" for fun and playtime, even if you wake them up. I don't know about the fuzzy hair, but maybe someone else knows more about the different breeds of rats. I have 4 pink eyed whites (albinos) that are brothers and they are hilarious. Love to explore when I give them some run time in a safe area, and they come when I call them!!

Rex refers to the curly/ wavy hair and whiskers. There is no way he is wild or even snake food. Either someone lost him or some heartless oaf decided he didn't want it anymore and dumped him. Either way, unless he is saved, he's likely to become cat/coyote/snake/hawk food or get hit by a car. By the way, they make wonderful pets. They're almost as smart as cats. Way nicer and smarter than rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters; I've had all of them. Currently I have 3 rescue lab rats (and what seams like a small zoo) so I can't take him in right now. You might see if the Dept. of Animal Services (619-236.4250) can take him in as a stray. Marie
Pet Rat Reponse....
of course people have pet rats, lol. my boys just died a few months ago, but i've had rats since I was a child. They're very loving social creatures, and are just as intelligent as dogs (they can be trained). They also have very distinct personalities. sounds like he's a blue harley or a blue rex (rax's can be a bit lethargic), you can save him from the wilds if you'd like. I'm sure he's hungry or at least would appreciate food, if you have any cheerios, lettuce, nuts of any kind, anything really, I'm sure he's really love you if you gave him a cookie. Anything but dairy foods and meat (they can eat it, but sticking vegetarian/vegan is better for their diet and temperament. give him small pieces and see if he'll come up to you. overall he should be pretty harml ess, but still be wary, he can still bite. good luck!
Pet Rat
Hi,
Â
People really do have rats as pets. They are smart, clean and a lot of fun. I have one...she has a cage but we keep it open all day. She has a ladder from the couch to her cage so she can come and go as she wants. She'll run around a bit, sit with you...she loves to have her belly rubbed. She'll sit on my shoulder and walk around the house with me. She comes when I call her, growls at the cat (who's afraid of her), and gives little kisses. They are great for those who don't have time or space for larger pets. (Only problem is, they usually only live for a couple of years). If you have some fruit or yogurt, I bet you can get it to come to you.Â

Thanks for the funny post!

Found: Pet Rat in Mission Beach
The last few days we've had this rather cute fuzzy rat on our deck. At first we thought it wasn't a real rat. But the girls were scared of it. Ick! Run! Well, of course it is a quite real rat. But it is a pretty chill laid back rat. Its even pretty clean. It has hair that looks like something Billy Idol would have....although the rat has grey hair. Usually you chase after a rat, and it runs away, but this one kinda ambles around.
That was on Saturday. I saw the rat again today, on my deck. Just loafing around, sniffing stuff. Kinda like you'd think a dog or a cat would do. Of course if there were any cats around, I suspect this rat wouldn't be.
So anyway, there is no way this is a wild rat. Did I mention its clean, and not afraid? So I think its someone's pet rat. Anyone lose one? If you did, drop me a line! And if you didn't, drop me a line anyway to answer this simple question: Do people really have pet rats? I guess they do b/c I saw that one guy down in OB with the silly thin pony-tail that had a pet rat (the pony tail a lame attempt at mimicing the rat's tail?). It was (or I presume still is) an albino, with scary red eyes. And it kinda lived on his shoulder and would crawl inside his shirt. Not as cool as the rat living on my porch these days.
This rat kinda has that frazzled Einstein hair kinda thing, almost like you'd expect it to start talkin' to ya and telling you about Flux-Capacitors and Gravitational Constants and other craptastic stuff that would put you right to sleep if a rat wasn't talking about it.
That hasn't happened yet.
So anyway, if you know someone with a missing rat, let me know.
